20/06/2024 Citadelle Jardin d’Été Gin Wins Spirit of the Year at 2024 Bartender Spirits Awards
The 2024 Bartender Spirits Awards results are in, with Citadelle Jardin d’Été Gin by Citadelle from France taking home the Spirit of the Year title.
The sixth edition of the Bartender Spirits Awards took place in Chicago this past May 21, featuring entries from over 48 countries. Leading participants included the United States, Mexico, Italy, France, and India, with a notable increase in entries from India in the Gin and Whiskey categories; the Best in Show by Country winner was the Jaisalmer Gin Classic by Rampur Distillery.
The top three overall categories were Whiskey, Gin, and Tequila. For the first time in six years, Tequila ranked third in the number of entries, surpassing Vodka and Rum.
The Bartender Spirits Awards evaluated spirits based on Mixability, Balance and Versatility, Taste, Mouthfeel and Finish, Package, and Price.
Citadelle’s winning Gin is the company’s latest creation. Inspired by the garden at the Château de Bonbonnet, a nature preserve where flowers, fruit, and herbs flourish. Citadelle highlights it as the perfect spirit for the ever-classic Gin & Tonic.
Sid Patel, Founder and CEO of Beverage Trade Network, emphasized the importance of recognizing spirits that will enhance any bar's offerings, particularly those featuring trendy packaging and a notable price. “Bartenders are the true influencers, guiding consumer preferences with their recommendations,” he said. "Whether bartenders are looking to fill a specific gap in their inventory or create a new cocktail menu from scratch, their peers provide the best advice."
Medals went to spirits that excelled in the judging criteria meant to identify products worthy of inclusion in bar inventories. Each spirit was assessed on the above standards.
